Abstract EN

This study investigated the role of border trade in facilitating barter exchange between Ethiopia and Blue Nile State, aiming at identifying the volume of barter trade, and the exported or imported commodities.

The study indicated that the trade balance was in favor of Ethiopia; whereas Blue Nile State main exports to Ethiopia consists of oil, salt, recyclable iron, and dates, and its main imports from Ethiopia consists of coffee, ginger, honey, cosmetics and makeup tools, and metal detector devices.

The study recommends the encouragement of State exports; besides giving more attention to the activities of border trade since it have strategic dimensions; namely, economic, social, security, and political ones.
