Abstract EN

This study aimed to reveal the future of establishing of a Kurdish state after the 2017 referendum.

the inductive, analytical, and historical approach were used.

the study showed that the Kurdistan region of Iraq has many political, legal, economic and military assets that would make it a full-fledged state on the international level.

furthermore, most of the internal, regional and international states rejected the 2017 referendum.

the united nations, the united states and the European union did not welcome this referendum.

moreover, neighbouring countries (Syria, Iran and Turkey) rejected the step of holding the referendum conclusively.

the results also showed that the stability and building an independent Kurdish state would now be difficult without offering huge concessions by Kurds to the central government in Baghdad.
