Conversational implicature raises questions that need to be addressed by linguistic theory.

These questions include, how can the addressee understand the implicit meaning of the sentence he hears, which denotes something else? How does the speaker say something and at the same time mean something else? How do we move from the explicit meaning to the implicit meaning? How can we know and adjust the meaning if a particular formula such as al-istifham (interrogative), al-amr (imperative) and al-nahy (prohibition)? What are the mechanisms of transition from implication and implicature and vice versa? The purpose of this research is to explore conversational implicature in Al-Jahiz's Kitab al-Bukhala (Book of Misers), a text loaded with implied meanings, which can only be understood by invoking the context of the text and the nonlinguistic context in order to distinguish between implication and implicature.
