The liberalization of clcctricity markets aims to improve efficiency and reduce prices.

However, electricity has certain characteristics that make it possible for market power to arise and to be exploited by some producers during certain periods.

In this paper, we explore the possibility of proxiding suitable environment which would counter the effects of market power and limit its impact.

This is carried out through a number of steps by market authorities.

These are outlined throughout the paper in detail.

We also emphasize the importance of market authorities in oserseeing the market and the processes of mergers of enterprises to limit the cffcct of market power.
