لدى استشهاد أمير المؤمنين (علي بن ابي طالب) () تسلم ابنه (الحسن) الشهيد () قيادة المسلمين في ظل ظروف سياسية معقدة، فكان رجل حق، نافذ البصيرة ثابت القلب، مستقر النفس، فتدافعت أمواج الاهتزاز في الضمير العربي المسلم، و انكشف الستر و انقشعت كل السحب التي تمثل الضلالة و التمويه، و اشتعلت الحياة العقلية بالمناظرة و المحاججة المبنية على منطق الاستدلال و الاستقرار، و اتبعت الأهواء المنحرفة، فتملك الخوف و التردد الناس، و التمزق الداخلي يعيث بكيان الأمة، فلا المؤشر الإنساني مستقر الذبذبات، و لا الاستقرار الذاتي نابع من الأعماق.
بمثل هذا الجو المرتبك إنثال المسلمون مبايعين الإمام (الحسن بن علي) () و كانت تلك البيعة شرعية شارك فيها بقية السابقين في الإسلام، و ممثلوا القصبات و الأقاليم، و كثرة من المجتمع العراقي بخاصة، و كانت هذه البيعة رضى للخاصة و فرحاً عظيماً للعامة.
و علم (معاوية بن سفيان) بهذه البيعة، فامتلأ قلبه حقداً، و استعد للحرب حيث اشترى الذمم و الضمائر، و استمال رجال القبائل، و تجاوبت معه أتبع ذلك كله بحملات القوة و الإرهاب.

After the martyrdom of Ameer al- Mu`mineen (P.
U.
H), Imam Hasen had assumed the leadership under so serious and sophisticated conditions.
He was a very wise man believed that nothing should affect truthiness or rightfulness.
During that period, the mental life was occupied with the arguments and debates based on deduction and followed the corrupted opinions that were controlled by fear and hesitation.
Within such circumstances the Muslims had recognized Imam Hasen (P.
U.
H) as caliphate in a legal manner where the early Muslims had participated as well as many of the Iraqi society.
Mu`awiyah bin Abi Sufiyan had known of this recognizing, so, with a heart full of hatred, he prepared to overturn the political status for his behalf; he had induced the tribes 'men by money or by fear.
All the opportunists and the double- dealers had assisted
