Abstract EN

The Iraqi legislation and laws related to the environment and its protection, and the successive transformations that the Iraqi society has undergone for more than half a century, have not succeeded in forming a family environmental culture that can contribute to providing individuals with positive knowledge and attitudes towards the natural environment and its problems.

And enhance their abilities in appropriate behavior to maintain and develop them.

From here, the research problem is summarized in the following question: To what extent does the Iraqi family play its role as a socio-cultural institution in directing individuals to care for, protect and develop the natural environment? Accordingly, the research aims to: 1- Determining the respondents' perceptions about environmental culture and pollution problems.

2- Knowledge of the elements of promoting environmental culture in the Iraqi family3- Knowing the obstacles that prevent the promotion of environmental culture in the Iraqi family.

4- Setting recommendations that enhance the elements of environmental culture and reduce the obstacles that prevent this.

Results of the Research: 1- There are many environmental laws in Iraq, but accompanied by poor application and family awareness.

2- The spirit of environmental citizenship is weak for many citizens.

3- The Iraqi family has a clear perception of environmental culture, but children do not teach environmental practices outside the home.
