Abstract EN

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the relative efficiency of the 31 health systems from Mediterranean Sea country, By using a two-stage procedure.

In the first stage, a nonparametric frontier method of data envelopment analysis (DEA) is employed to measure technical efficiency scores for the health systems, In a second stage efficiency scores are explained by means of a Tobit analysis with a set of explanatory socio-demographic factors playing the role of non-discretionary inputs, such as education and urbanisation.

The results indicate that average level of efficiency scores is 60.27%.

Furthermore, The results demonstrate that systems who spending less in health are more efficient.
