Abstract EN

The paper aims at shedding some lights on the concepts and methodologies which are relevant in building the capacities of the teaching staff, through studying and analyzing the efforts of the higher education institutions in Sudan taking Omdurman Islamic University as a case study.

This paper takes in account so many indicators related to the capacity building of the teaching staff, as well as the improvement of the curriculums, method of assessment, scientific research and community service .The capacity building of the teaching staff in the higher education starts in the Sudan before more than three decades, through arranging intensive training programs to improve the performance of the new - coming teaching staff.

These training programs were further developed and became a well- arranged, systematic and well organized programs, supervised by what is called the centers of the teaching staff capacity building.

Omdurman Islamic University has established two of these centers which are as follows: 1.

The teaching staff capacity building centre.

2.

Education developing Centre.

The first Centre concentrates on the faculties of the social sciences, while the second Centre focuses on the faculties of the applied sciences.

The paper follows the analytical and deductive methodologies which may enable the researcher to conclude by some valuable results and recommendations.
