Modern Arab linguists sought to reconsider the phonetic legacy relying on the ways and the means presented by modern linguistic theories Their opinions varied between "a critic and a renewedposition", and"defenders" of the grammarians' opinion.

The first position represents the descriptors and the second one represents the linguist Haj Saleh.

This work seeks to describe and compare these two positions.

As a result, most of the findings of the descriptors are olutely unrecognizable, and most of their criticisms and conclusions can be refuted, according to Haj Saleh.
