The right of victims to reparation is guaranteed by international law and national law, and in countries emerging from conflict, countervailing justice is one of the most closely related transitional justice mechanisms for victims of gross violations of international law of human rights and international humanitarian law.

Because of its direct impact on victims, compensatory justice has become the most applicable mechanism at the national level through reparation programs; its types vary according to the nature of the violations and according to those affected by, abiding in that the criteria of the international law.
