This research paper provides a comparative analysis of some separatist tendencies in the European continent, where it shows the effects of racial and ethnic variables driving towards the crystallization of separatist tendencies that led to the success of some separatist groups in establishing sovereign states, and the failure of other groups.

This paper uses the categories of separation theory that focus on the importance of matching geographical, cultural and political criteria in the success of separatist tendencies.

It also focuses on the role of the broader state policies in curbing or exacerbating separatism, through the level of equity in the distribution of wealth between regions, and legal and political guarantees related to the protection of minorities.

The research paper concluded to prove the importance of regional support for separatist or orientation tendencies in Eastern Europe, which helped many of them to establish independent states, while some separatist groups still demand independence in western Europe despite the growing multiplicity and motives for separation
