Abstract EN

Deletion is a linguistic phenomenon the Arabs resort to for economy depending on the context to understand what has been ellipted.this tendency is widely used in Arabic particularly in syntax.

The deleted item is refered to through a process called estimation, which is originally entended for didactic purposes.However some grammarian exaggerated in estimating or interpretating the deleted item to the extent that they overload the lexical item with meanings that do not belong to it.

In this study, the researchers show how Ibn-Hiyaan in his book criticized the old grammarians accusing them of exaggeration in estimating the deleted items regarding it as a bad tendency.Ironically, the grammarians who came after him acused him with exaggeration in estimating the deleted items.The study also show may types of deletion or ellipsis in Arabic and the conditions that must be met to delete these items.
