Abstract EN

This study discusses the subject of Enlightenment and Secularism, their Presence in the Arab thought, especially in the mind of Arab Renaissance pioneers and the second generation of Arab intellectuals, from the late nineteenth to the mid-twentieth century.

The study includes an introduction, two sections and a conclusion.

In the Introduction, the researcher explains the concepts of Enlightenment and Secularism in details.

The first section deals with the Enlightenment and Secular thought of the first Arab Renaissance pioneers, such as Rafa"a Rafei AL-Tahtawi, Jamaluddin AL-Afghani and Sheikh Mohammed Abdo.

In the second section, the researcher sheds light on the Enlightenment and Secular thought for some of the second generation intellectuals,such as Farah Anton, Adib Ishac ,Ahmed Lutfi EL-Sayed and Taha Hussein.

The issue of the study has been intensively investigated in accordance with the method of philosophical analysis and Historical approach
