Abstract EN

Though Imru al-Qais composed his poem which is widely known as the Roman Poem in his way to the Constantinople seeking military support from the Roman Emperor and despite the fact that it was written during his utmost anger against the tribe of Asad which killed his father and during his great feeling of regret for not gaining victory on them, this poem shows that he was deeply obsessed by the search for his personal happiness and the attempt to embody it again in that poem to the extent that the main objective of his journey, gaining military support for war, is hardly found in the poem.

This objective was overshadowed by the happy life lexicon employed in the poem such as woman, female camel, mare, singing, paradise and wine.

The current study which is based on the biography of the poet and the analysis of the poem text shows that Imru al-Qais had no interest in waging war, seeking revenge for the murder of his father or regaining his kingship.

He just regarded all these things as means for restoring his personal life which was for him a dream that could come true.

The real life with all its problems such as the killing of his father, the loss of Kindah kingdom remained unimportant for him not as it was stated in books of literature.
