Abstract EN

This research is concerned with applying the Speech Act Theory on the poetic discourse in the poetry collection the Whiff of Acceptance in Praise of the Prophet by Nabulsi which was chosen because it serves as a communicative message whereby the author aims at expressing a number of deliberative purposes and communicating them to the addressee which contributes to the successful fulfilment of communication and actions between the two parties of the communication process: ( the adresser and the addressee).

The Poet also uses a number of figurative techniques so as to reinforce illocutionary acts such as similes, metaphors, metonymy, anastrophe, and figurative speech.

The research has proven that the poet employs three patterns of speech acts:
Assertive verbs are used in five hundred verses and directive verbs are used in four hundred verses while expressive verbs are used in five hundred fifty verses.

All this is deliberately intended by the addresser.

Furthermore, the addresser employs some figurative techniques to reinforce the illocutionary act including similes, metaphors, metonymy, anastrophe, and figurative speech.

The illocutionary acts fulfill the reporting and descriptive verbs by reporting some of the facts related to the message of the prophet Muhammed and the mandatory role of his companions in supporting him and advocating Islam, in addition to describing the journey of the pilgrims from Damascus, the home country of the poet, to Hejaz passing by Medina and seeing its described lights.

The addresser uses directive verbs for the speech acts of (seeking intercession) and (drawing people in to believing in Allah and following the sunnah of the prophet).

He also employs expressive verbs for the speech acts of (expressing ) his love of the messenger, and his longing to see him and to visit his city Medina and his mosque.
