The dichotomies of cinema and history have become increasingly important as they bring together the intellectual and aesthetic aspects not only for studies related to cinema and mass media but also for historians and all those who are passionate about studying history.

History enlightens the artists and provides them with endless resources from which their artworks, historical characters and events are inspired.

Cinematic works of various types and classifications have turned into distinct historical sources as the natures of historical resources impose on the historians not to neglect or disdain any of the resources.

Within this frame, cinema has emerged for more than half a century as an important tool and a new document that enriches the sources of historical research.

The document, generally, contains all the historical information but this is not limited to what was written on it.

In this intervention, I will try to highlight the relationship between history and cinema, and the conditions for employing cinematic work in historical research through shedding light on Algerian, Tunisian and Moroccan movies during the French colonial era.
