The study aimed to identify the aspects of the development of ancient literary criticism from the pre-Islamic era until the end of the fifth century of migration.

The study followed the descriptive and analytical approach, and it reached the scope of literary criticism expanded to include the arts of poetry and prose in addition to studying the life of the poet and writer and the extent of the reflection of his culture on his literary output, singling out For the product of the poet or writer in a general way, he developed poetic themes related to the weight, presentation and rhyming of poetry.

The study recommends addressing the trends of ancient literary criticism.
