Abstract EN

The study aims to shed light on the role of brokers and auctioneers in Islamic Egypt, Where brokers and auctioneers played a major role in business dealings within and outside markets, The brokerage profession is an old profession that was known before the advent of Islam.

The importance of broker and auctioneer is due to the difficulty of direct contact between seller and buyer which requires a link between them and it is a broker or auctioneer to bring closer between two parties to the contract.

The researcher followed the research method based on inference and conclusion, As well as the analytical method and exploration in sources and Arabic papyrus.

The broker's profession was reported in the texts of the Arab papyri, which clearly indicates the prevalence of this supportive craft in the movement of buying, selling and trading in Islamic Egypt from the first centuries of the Hijra to the Fatimid era.

The results of this study showed the multiple competences of Brokers and auctioneers, Some of them are brokers of books, milk, cheese, cereals, fabrics, and also bondmaidens.

The study also showed that dhimmis (Christians and Jews) were practicing the processes of brokerage and auction.

Names of some of them are mentioned in the Arab papyri, as well as the role of Egyptian women in the processes of brokerage and auction
