This study deals with the approach of the Algerian historian Al-Mahdi Al-Bouabdely (1907-1992) in his presentation of the topic of the Salafi movement in Algeria, and follows the stages of its emergence and development from the fourteenth century to the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century, as it is considered the first of the methods of this topic and the foundations of the study Entrusted to him, and he stopped at the first historical evidence of the birth of that movement in Algeria through his study entitled: "Abd al-Rahman al-Akhdari and the phases of Salafism in Algeria.

Al-Bouabdali believes that the Salafi movement in Algeria emerged as a corrective reaction to the deviations and heresies in the Islamic Sufism in the Maghreb.

Therefore, the dispute between the Salafi reformers and the advocates of Sufism intensified.

Al-Bouabdali was committed to including this Salafi movement within its historical pattern, and according to the peculiarities of Islamic culture in the Islamic Maghreb.
