Abstract EN

Amidi is one of the most famous Arab critics ever, particularly those of the fourth century.

The reason for this is his critical thoughts on which the first Arab methodology of authorship was based and his intellectual ideology which formulated and crystallized these thoughts.

Accordingly, his literary school and critical style were reflected in his writings.

This paper is aimed at investigating the essence of these critical thoughts which lead to his well-known arguments concerning different issues, particularly those mentioned in his book al- Muwazanah bayna abi Tammam wa al-Buhturi (A comparison between Abi Tammam and al-Buhturi).

Investigating these thoughts and the factors which formulated and crystallized them reflects the semantic relationship between the critic and the text when he drew a comparison between the two poets.

Accordingly, his Sunni school of thought was revealed, particularly Zahiri school of thought which is regarded an ideological intellectual doctrine.

Zahiri school of thought derives from the Sunni school of thought which is different from other schools such as Shiite and Kharijite and the like.

Similarly, Sunnis themselves are divided into pure Sunnis, Mu'tazilites, Ashʿarites and Zahris.

The researcher attempted to discern the impact of Amidi's views on the methods used by Abi Tammam and al-Buhturi, and his impact on poetic texts that are consequently interpreted according to certain criteria used for interpreting Islamic texts, for example the investigation of mistakes made by poets on the lexical and semantic levels.

Finally, the researcher concluded that Amidi's ideological viewpoints influence his poetic imagery.
