The Almohads inherited a vast geographical space characterized by the diversity of its social structure.

While endeavoring to unify the Islamic Maghreb and subjugate its inhabitants, they had to deal with the Hilalians, who had already settled in the Islamic Maghreb in the fifth century AH (11 A.

This endeavor required a tight multi-tool strategy and a variety of mechanisms to ensure political stability, social harmony, and control over this space, on the one hand, and to use the Hilalians in realizing the Almohad political project on the other hand, especially the part of it that was related to the Andalusi side, where Islamic rule was already retreating significantly.

This research paper seeks therefore to monitor the Almohad mechanisms that were used in the subjugation of Hilalian tribes, focusing on the nature of these mechanisms, whether at the level of tools, systems or texts and discourses.

The latter reflect, in their entirety, the Almohad authority's vision and approach to dealing with nomadic elements, especially since the issue of subjugating nomadic groups was problematic for the majority of political forces throughout history.

In order to grasp the strategic depth of these mechanisms and their use, this study relies mainly on official Almohad sources consisting of missives and appointment ceremonies.
