The books of degenerations and jurisprudential (Fatawa and Nawazil) opinions of the Maghreb in the Middle Ages are one of the important historical sources, where we extract information about life in all its aspects and reveal many phenomena, people's behavior and their mentalities which is not found in traditional historical sources.

Among the social phenomena that can be discovered through this type of sources; the phenomenon of women fleeing from the valley and countryside of the Islamic Maghreb during the Middle Ages.

Women were considered a secondary or marginal element in many rural areas and were subjected to many kinds of oppressions and injustices in matters of marriage, divorce and inheritance.

In such matters, rural areas were not prosecuted for Islamic law, and judicial institutions were often absent in such communities.

This led some women to flee to the interior where women were supposed to be protected by a man of influence or Jah.

Sometimes women fled to cities where there were magistrates with the ability to carry out their sentence.

The woman who fled to the city either found a new husband or fled with a lover living with him in the city away from her family, or where perhaps her family and her husband could find her and possibly killed her, or fall into the grip of some deviant.
