Abstract EN

This study showings to the nature of the relationship between the demographic transition in the age structure of the population and the rates of economic growth in Algeria during the period (1970-2016).

To this end, we will use the descriptive analytical approach.

The results reveal that the features of the opening of the demographic window started to appear exactly in 2001, but despite this, Algeria was unsuccessful in seizing this exceptional opportunity that did not bring any real gains, especially with regard to reducing unemployment rates among young people and accelerating rates of economic growth, That is, demographic changes were not a major factor in stimulating economic growth.

In this context, the study recommends the necessity of relying on effective economic policies to take advantage of this temporary historical opportunity, by investing in human capital and adequate attention to education, health, the labor market and the business climate, so that transforme changes in the age structure are into real development and economic gains, which ultimately lead To accelerate economic growth rates.
