the speaker may attract the attention of the audience by changing the order of the words through several ways, including the changing of the na't construction.

na't is one of the four appositives in arabic.

this phenomenon has a well-known form.

it is to bring the qualified word first, followed by a qualifier that clarifies, specifies, or confirms it… na't has a significant role and function in arabic.

some poets change the order of the na't construction by bringing the qualifier before the qualified word.

among them is the contemporary prolific poet mahmoud hasan ismail.

he used this phenomenon numerous times in his poetry.

therefore, this research aims at discussing this phenomenon in one of his poems; namely, “life of tears and obsequies” included in his collection of poems entitled: “this is how i sing” and published with his complete poetry works.

the research analyses the poem rhetorically with a view to understanding the rhetorical secrets behind the inversion of na't.
