The developments in combating crime and trying to find an effective penal policy in line with human rights have now led to the conclusion that the death penalty is incompatible with human values.

In this regard, the international community has taken steps to abolish or at least limit the death penalty to serious crimes.

Algeria, as part of the international community, has tried to keep up with these developments taking into account internal interests and international obligations, has confined death penalty to only dangerous crimes.
