Abstract EN

Root canal treatment is one of the most important therapeutic procedures, but this may be difficult to achieve properly, especially when there are obstructions within the root canal.

So we need to use some of the chelating material.

This study aimed at comparing the effectiveness of the solution (EDTA) and sodium citrate solution as materials for removing calcifications ivory and measure the percentage of lime dissolved as a result of it, and study their impact on the ivory wall inside the channel when used in different concentrations and different times.

A total of (35) extracted human teeth with single root canal were divided into two main groups each one contained (15) teeth, and (5) teeth as a control group.

In Group (1) we applied EDTA solution in ( 3%, 5%, 17% ) concentration and for ( 1min, 2min, 24h ).

In Group (2) we applied Sodium Citrate solution in similar circumstances to group (1), we did not apply any chelating solutions on the control group.

The results showed that the ratio of lime when applying Sodium Citrate is higher than when applying (EDTA), was also noted that the effectiveness of the (EDTA) concentrations (3%) and (15)% and (17%), almost identical, also it was found that the ratio of lime when applying (EDTA ) for different periods of time was close.

On the terms of influence on dentin wall the more time of application the more damage of dentin inside root canal.

On the other hand, when we applied Sodium Citrate we have observed that the lime ratio increased with the raise of concentration, also with the raise in the time of application but it’s a bit slightly.

Chelating materials must be used during endodontic treatment according to deliberate rules and controls.
