Abstract EN

To compare external surface roughness between superelastic and heat-activated nickel-titanium wires used in orthodontics.

Sample consisted of 12 NiTi Force I (Superelastic) and 12 Therma-Ti Lite (Heatactivated) nickel-titanium orthodontic wires (0.019 in×0.025 in) both types had the same chemical composition and were produced from the same manufacturer (American Orthodontics®).

Wires were examined using Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) to compare surface roughness between two types of wires.Analysis of Pores and processes on the surface of both groups showed significant differences.

Surfaces of Heat-activated nickel-titanium orthodontic wires were more complicated than Superelastic ones.
