Abstract EN

Choosing the right wife was a main reference in formulating the popular proverb, in order to guide the woman behavior, drawing for her the ideal image, to attain finally the admiration of a man who might marry her, noting that the woman at that time was under the power of the man and his tyranny, she was also subjected to him before marriage, that imposes on her such mode of life to be the supreme model of society.

This paper focused on the Algerian proverbs concerning the women issues, highlighting this social aspect which is the culture of the popular proverb in the social view of the woman and the required conditions in her personality to be accepted as a suitable wife, who makes her husband and family happy.

The study is interested in a set of proverbs collected by Kada Botarn in his work "Algerian proverbs” translated by Haj Abdel Rahman Saleh.
