Abstract EN

Citizenship in its simplest sense means caring for the individual who is a member of a country, and thus deserves the concessions that result from that membership.

Considering the values of citizenship among the values brought by modernity.

In this article, we try to find out how religious and cultural values in Algerian society, as traditional values, are affected by this wave of world civilization.

In this study, I will focus on the conflict between modernity and tradition by knowing the extent to which the values of citizenship and religious and cultural values exist in the book of civic education for the third year of primary school, with the aim of knowing the direction adopted by the educational system after the recent reforms (2016).

In other words, can we say that it is in line with the general trend to consolidate the values of citizenship to create a global citizen, open to accepting the other? Or is there an explicit call to uphold local cultural and religious values and exclude all incoming.

Or is there an explicit call to embrace the values of citizenship and at the same time work to create a citizen who respects and upholds his culture, heritage and religion? The general trend observed in the current study is to reduce the percentage of mentioning the Qur’anic verses and honorable hadiths, while calling for the formation of an open and accepting citizen of the other, and to work not to delve into the core issues of the Islamic religion, with the superficiality of objective presentation.

This is to avoid a clash of knowledge between what is modern (citizenship) and what is traditional or heritage (custom, customs and traditions).
