Abstract EN

The study aimed to identifying the extent of the Palestinian banking sector's commitment to its social responsibilities towards the Palestinian community, In addition to identifying the contribution of the Palestinian banking sector towards social responsibility, an analysis of the financial data was conducted for a sample of commercial banks operating in Palestine And a comparative study of cash contributions attributed to the annual net profit of those commercial banks, The sample included the most important 10 local and foreign commercial banks operating in Palestine for the period from 2013 – 2017, The results of the study showed that local and foreign commercial banks bear their social responsibility towards the local community, but most of these contributions came in the form of donations or sponsorship and did not contribute effectively to sustainable development, And there is a clear disparity in the volume of contributions between local and foreign banks in favor of local banks, The study recommended that the banks should comply with the percentage of contribution stipulated by the Monetary Authority, And that there should be targeted strategies and criteria for providing support to social responsibility sectors so as to contribute to the establishment of productive projects that address the national priorities of Palestine and are in the interest of sustainable development.
