Irony is considered as one of the genuine creative literary arts in both Arabic and foreign cultures that was embraced by few writers to mock their social conditions and reality in a sarcastic and meaningful way.

In this article, the delineation of the still ambiguous concept of Irony is to be made so to distinguish it from other shapes like “humour”, “sarcasm” and “comedy”.

It is to be done on the level of terminology and evolution in order to be able to discern if it is mere rhetorical device or literary genre.

In addition, did it become an independent art and a rhetorical device that included both of the official and popular works that was used by writers as a reappraisal technique ?
