Abstract EN

The present study aimed to identify the pupils' direction towards mathematics as well as highlight the relationship between this trend and achievement in mathematics.

It also aims at identifying the differences between these trends in both sexes as this research can provide suggestions and recommendations that can contribute to improving the teaching process.

The study sample consisted of (114) 4th year students – boys and girls – who were randomly selected within the middle school of Boubaker Elarbi in Essenia, Oran.

And to answer these questions, the researcher designed a questionnaire ( Direction towards Mathematics) consisting of 20 phrases distributed over 4 dimensions, where the tool was subjected to a study of the validity of the requirements of honesty and stability, and after the use of the descriptive approach, The following: -Students carry positive attitudes toward math except for (5) students out of (114).

-There is no significant correlation between pupils' attitudes towards mathematics and their academic achievement.
