Organized crime is one of the most prevalent crimes at the present time, as it does not recognize the territorial borders of states, nor the standard of living for them, as its impact affects both poor and rich countries alike, and given the specificity of this type of crime that crosses regional borders, alternatives had to be provided.

This goal can only be reached by intensifying cooperation between countries at all levels; chief among them is international judicial cooperation in combating organized crime, which is done by several means, including mutual legal assistance.
