This experiment was conducted at the Farm of Nasser’s Faculty of Agric.

Sci., Aden Univ.

during The Agricultural seasons 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 to study the Effect of plough types and fertilization on plant growth characteristics, yield and its components.

The study included 20 treatments which were the combination of four tillage treatments (no-tillage ,moldboard, disc and chisel ploughs) and five fertilization treatments (0,120 N +70 P2O5 + 50K2O kg ha-1 , Actosol + 60 N+ 35 P2O5 + 25 K2O kg ha-1 , Biofol + 60 N+ 35 P2O5 + 25 K2O kg ha-1 , Fish Agra +60 N+ 35 P2O5 + 25 K2O kg ha-1 ).

Split plot design with three replicates was used.The results of the combined analysis of the two seasons showed that plough types with (moldboard, disc, chisel ploughs) and the treatment of moldboard plough achieved significant increment in the study characteristics except number of leaves/plant and number of grains cob did not reached to the significant effect with disc and chisel ploughs compared with notillage, and compared with plough types with disc and chisel ploughs respectively .

Fertilization treatments significantly affected in plant growth characteristics and yield.

the treatment which fertilization with 120 N + 70 P2O5 + 50 K2O kg ha-1 achieved significant increment in the study characteristics except number of leaves/plant and number of grains cob did with significant increment compared with no fertilizer treatment.

The treatments which received 120 N +70 P2O5 + 50 K2O kg ha-1 and Biofol + 60 N +35 P2O5 +25 K2O kg ha-1gave a significant increment in number of grains cob without significant differences between them, while the highest value of average number of rows cob, was obtained with treatment which received Biofol + 60 N + 35 P2O5 +25 K2O kg ha-1.The interaction between tillage treatments and fertilization affected significantly in some plant growth characteristics and yield, plough types with moldboard and disc ploughs and fertilization with 120 N + 70 P2O5 + 50 K2O kg ha-1 produced the highest significant values of average plant height, number of rows cob, weight of 1000 grains, and grain yield/hectare.

the moldboard plough treatment and fertilization with 120 N + 70 P2O5 + 50 K2O kg ha-1produced the highest significant values in average stem diameter, leaf cob area, cob weight, weight of grain cob.
