Abstract EN

This research aims to discuss the issue of heritage in contemporary Arab thought, which was regarded from two contradicting views.

The two views ranged from the proponents of sanctification who remained prisoners of the past, and those advocating desecration who refused everything related to the past.

As a matter of fact, eachpart claimed that their view is objective and realistic.

However, according to Jabiri both readings are subjective, and he refers to both of them as 'Salafist readings.

' Therefore, the term 'Salafism' gained new meanings with Jabri's view that brought with it a new content that is worth study and consideration.

Accordingly, the current research paper revealed that Al-Jabri's readingscame in the context of a comprehensive critical project under the title of criticism of the Arab mind.

His work was characterized by seriousness and depth, and preached a critical orientation in contemporary Arab thought.

In fact, the value of Al Jabiri's work was especially noted in his usage of the Arabic language ashe used Arabic as a philosophicallanguage.

On another side, although Al Jabiriclaimed usingepistemologicaland scientifictools in hisreading, his work fell short to account for that; he based his reading on borrowing tools from mainly French structuralism.

This, in fact raises the following question: in his direction, hadn't Aljabiri fallen into another form of Salafism, which is the orientation that he criticized others for?
