The university is the locomotive of the community and it is the responsibility of the development of society, so it is its task to form an individual intellectual intellectual capable of analysis and creativity, criticism and innovation, this is through its important functions of transferring knowledge through teaching and producing knowledge through scientific research, and the development of society through the third function, where the service of society has become one of the most important functions that the modern universities, which exceeded the boundaries of their walls and went out to the community and interacted with him, through the dialectical relationship existing between the university and society as the university does not arise from a vacuum, but from the need of the community, the aim of this research paper is to understand the concept of the university's third function, This is in addition to knowing the dimensions of the University's service to the community and the justifications of the University's service to the community, the activities and services it provides, and the reality of the University's service to the community in the framework of literature and previoustudies.
