If orientalism is an expression of what Western thought has reached from the studies of the Eastern world, its history, its sciences, its arts and its culture, the Orientalist discourse has been criticized by many thinkers from the East and the West alike because of its own views that reflect the Western view.

The Arab-American thinker and critic Edward Wadie Said (1935-2003) was one of the most important scholars interested in the subject of Orientalism, first in terms of studying the history of the Oriental discourse, explaining its causes and objectives, and secondly, criticizing the structure of this discourse and revealing its contradictions and ideological tendencies in hegemony and domination.

The essay attempts to reflect on Edward Said's critical view of Oriental discourse by examining the arguments on which this criticism is based, examining its findings and the alternatives it presents, as well as the question of the legitimacy of this critique in terms of science and knowledge.
