Abstract EN

This paper addresses the disourse of irony in classical Arabic literature, prose and potery alike, when such literaure was in its heydays, extending into to the story (the era before the advent of Islam, the Ummayad era, the Abbasid era, the Andlusian era, and even the Maghrebin era).

It attemepts to investigate the techniques of this rhetorical discourse and the extent to which literature had said discourse in it.

It also focuses on the psychological, social, indicative-communicative dimensions of the discourse of irony in classical Arabic literature, and also distinguishes it from its synonyms, such as the discourse of pardox, humour and joke, etc.
