Abstract EN

The aim of this study is to find out how citizen journalists can participate in the production and dissemination of news stories through social media by highlighting the motivations of the Algerian youth to practice citizen journalism and knowing the areas they are interested in covering and the means and pillars on which they depend to practice this journalistic activity.

In this study we used the descriptive survey methodology, using observation, questionnaire and interview as scientific research tools to collect information from the sample members who are a group of students of the Faculty of Information and Communication Sciences at the University of Algiers 3 and some universities in the country.

The study concluded that the students of the Faculty of Information and Communication Sciences in various universities in Algeria practice citizen journalism as a means of training them in media work and contact with the field as future journalists.

Not to mention the decline of their confidence in the old media of written press, radio and television, in addition to the enjoyment of citizen journalism applications interactive and real-time in spreading the news and limited censorship and freedom of publishing and ease of use and flexibility for bold controversial topics, and students rely on their smart phones connected to the Internet and equipped with applications and social networks At the forefront is Facebook to participate in the coverage of events in many areas such as the provision of humanitarian assistance through tracing and assistance to vulnerable groups in the community and coverage of traffic accidents, fires and disasters Selling and weather fluctuations, marches, protests, transfer of forms of administrative corruption, incidents of theft, violence and conflicts, and conducting awareness campaigns and guidance and other fields that concern their daily lives as citizens and members of communities.
