Abstract EN

Tunisia had witnessed during the modern era a lot of political crises.

The Hussein Pasha crisis 1728-1756, between the Bey Hussein ben Ali and his nephew Ali Pasha, was one of the biggest and longest power conflicts in Tunisia.

As the tradition, the defeated party flee to Algeria, as they are used to do, in order to get support from the Algerian authorities, and so did Ali Pasha after his defeat in 1729.

The Algerian authorities did not respond to the desire of Ali Pasha at the beginning, but with the change of the Dey, Ali Pasha got the Algerian military support, he needed, then returned to Tunisia in 1735 to overthrow the Bey and took the reins of control in Tunisia.

The role of Algeria was not only military in this crisis but also the border tribes participated in that conflict, along with the party with who it has a relation of benefits.
