Abstract EN

In order to be an example for the research, Nevşehir being based on a homogeneous demography was chosen as the study universe.
Even though Nevşehir has changed in recent years with external migration and modernization, as a typical downtown Anatolia she continues to use the traditional elements in marriage.
When we pay attention to Nevşehir’s marriage preferences, we understand that central authority is based on patriarchal hegemony that internal marriages are common, that monogamy is preferred, and even if there is an increase in divorce is not preferred.
We know that, as a social institution, the family and the marriage that ensures its continuity is important.
From this point of view, in the process leading to marriage it is noted that many traditional ceremonies are practiced.
In this sense, in-depth interviews were conducted face to face with women from Nevşehir and the traditions were interpreted anthropologically.
