The research mainly aims to the mechanism of the symbol, its importance to the poet and its effect in conveying the human, social, intellectual and political sufferings of the poet.

Through the religious symbol, the poet can reach to his special constructions which constitutes the Iraqi poetry because it is an effective constituent in constructing the poetic image.

The research is divided into two parts; the concept of text and poetic patterns of the religious symbol.
