Abstract EN

The descriptive historiographical methodology is one of the most important approaches used to explain and justify phenomena and behaviors in societies.

Historians in Islam have had a major role in the history and description of Sufism as a religious approach and a social phenomenon.

Due to the divergence of views in the narration of the history of Sufism and Sufis, Ibn Al Jawzi, in his book “Safwat Al-Safwa”, had methodological criticisms on Abi Naim's approach in his narrating of Sufism in his book Al-Hilya.

This research reveals the accuracy of Ibn al-Jawzi's approach in his pursuit of Abi Naim, whether in the historical narrative, or criticizing the approaches of Sufis, which Abi Naim missed.
