Abstract EN

The ways of the Arab renaissance varies between three intellectual trends.

the first believes that the Arab reality in order to rise should be regulated in the history of western Europe, ignoring the specificity of its Arab reality, and even the specificity of the western experience itself.

the second trend aims at looking back to the historical experience of Islam in its first centuries, where it links contemporary Arab reality to the first Islamic experience ignoring the specificity of contemporary Arab reality and its forms.

thus, it falls into the same mistake of the secular scientific trends, where the past connects the present and the present within the past, ignoring the variables of the Arab reality.

the third sees the renaissance of the Arab reality by combining the two former trends, and argues that it is necessary to adhere the religious origins while taking into account the gains of the western civilization that concludes a vision of the history of these intellectual trends.

the secular scientific trend emphasizes the need for regularity in the history of the west, and follows the European view of history which sees the movement of history and progress is always straight forward.

it is a leap forward by demanding a cognitive break with the past/heritage; whereas fundamentalist trends see the movement of history in a circular way.

it means going back to the starting point under the control of the revelation over history, not the control of the reason.

the third- the syncretic trend- sees the movement of history in the need to return to heritage taking into account the gains of western civilization.
