Iran's regional policy towards the Arab Gulf after 1979 has been a continuation of its policy before that date, of which hegemony remained a prominent feature at the regional level.

The conditions of the US occupation of Iraq, which was a brake on this Iranian endeavor, created an environment favorable to Iran to increase its influence in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon and spread this influence to include new areas such as Bahrain and Yemen.

Anyhow, the threats of the Iranian policy have made the relation with international powers, particularly the United States, a pretext for regional security arrangements that may pave the way for a new regional order that has emerged at the Warsaw Conference on Security in the Middle East, of which Israel is the focal point.
