Abstract EN

This study aims to identify the correct and the non-correct reasons behind judging a name as distasted and how to change it.

The researcher used an inductive analytical methodology.

The study shows that Islam pays a lot of attention for the names of its followers and to changing their distasted names based on certain rules for example, when the name is far from truth, or when it implies a bad meaning or ugliness, it is changed.

Islam seeks to change distasted names to other names that gives a good impression on both the man named and the hearer.

The rules upon which a distasted names is changed into another good one are based on the intended meaning of the names and the people's reaction and acceptance of it.

The researcher provided some recommendations such as thinking deeply before judging a name as distasted through investigating carefully the reasons behind that judgment taking into consideration the differences in people's intentions and the different interpretations of the meaning of these names according to the different places and environments
