Abstract EN

-This paper dealt with the geographic, natural and human characteristics of Wadi Dawan basin.

The researchers studied the geology of of Wadi Dawan and the surrounding areas, particularly Hadramout Valley and its Southern platue.

The study aslo examined the geographical distribution of the rural settlement centers according to their population sizes in the valley and in the platue.

Therefore, the morphometric characteristics of the basin and its drainage network system were an important part of this study.

The researchers studied the uses of land located within the valleys (right valley and the left valley) and in the low basin focusing on the residential use, agricultural use, tramsportation network, commercial and industrial, uses and service such as education, health, administration, religion, post offices, telecommunications, fuel and electricity stations.

The current study depended on previous scientific research studies, documents, reports and topographic, geologic and contour maps in addition to the use of modern techniques of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) (ArcGIS 10.0), satellite images of digital evaluation models and the advanced Spatial Analysis.

The findings of this study are expected to be reliable due to the employment of scientific technical methods, measurement, analysis, interpretation and deduction of the results
