Abstract EN

This study aims to shed light on the concept of central banks and the question of their independence, and to highlight the relationship between independence and indicators of economic balance such as: inflation, economic growth, the balance of general budget and balance of payment.

Focusing on the state of the Algerian economy, it was concluded that the Bank of Algeria has obtained significant legal independence under the Law relating to Money and Credit and its amendments.

This has enabled it to reduce inflation rates, but other indicators of economic balance remain hostage to the evolution of oil prices.
