The Algerian economy is heavily dependent on the rent from hydrocarbons (97% of export earnings).

and since 2014, the economic fundamentals have been negative: budget deficit, trade balance and, currency depreciation, inflation and high unemployment rate.

Since the 2000s, Algeria has put in place a policy aimed at improving national food security, the development of certain priority agricultural sectors and land reclamation.

This policy has been implemented through various national plans shaped to the rhythm of fluctuations in oil revenues.

This study aims to diagnose the reality of the Algerian agricultural sector, its position in the national economy and its role in increasing economic development.

Important results of the study: The added value of the agricultural sector is constantly evolving.

For the first time in the history of Algeria, the income of the agricultural sector was higher than the oil income in the year 2020.
