In the historical research methodology, it focuses on the relationship between history and sociology by linking them in the auxiliary sciences on the one hand and the researcher or historian in history must familiarize with the auxiliary sciences, including sociology, to serve his topic and the results of his research and his method of historical writing on the other hand.

In the applied aspect, it is through study and academic research in particular.

From that the choice of this topic was intended to study the relationship between history and sociology through university theses (master's and doctoral theses) prepared at the University of Basra (in the history departments of the College of Arts and Education for the Humanities and Education for Girls), and in modern and contemporary history.

The study begins with the premise of the auxiliary sciences and its role in bringing history and other sciences closer together to advance historical writing in Iraqi university theses.

The researcher followed the descriptive and analytical method by relying on university theses, through scheduling them and subjects, studying their titles and their contents and referring to the introduction in each of them, to see the reasons for choosing the topic, titles, sources and results, to analyze them and link them to the research hypothesis.

The descriptive and analytical approach was used to allow the research to draw lines of how to benefit from auxiliary sciences, especially sociology, in raising the level of historical study in social subjects.
